A Week in Rajasthan

Door opens
06 March - 14 March  2027

One week of hands-on learning, experimentation and encounters with the people behind Rajasthan's traditional textile crafts.
Day 01

Arrival in Jaipur

Arrive in Rajasthan, settle into our Haveli in Amber (near Jaipur) and meet the group over a welcome dinner. An optional visit to Amber Fort offers a first glimpse into the region's rich history.

Day 02

Discovering Bagru

We begin the day with a visit to the Blockprint Museum in Amber to explore the history and traditions of Rajasthan's textile printing. Afterwards, we travel to Bagru, a village where generations of artisans have kept this craft alive. We check-in to our local Haveli  and share a traditional dinner at our sublime location.

Day 03

The Art of Blockprinting

Start the morning with yoga before stepping into the world of traditional blockprinting. Learn about wooden printing blocks, pigments and colour, then experiment with patterns and techniques on fabric samples. Discover how small variations in pressure, rhythm and colour transform each print.

Day 04

The Hands Behind the Craft

Meet the woodblock makers whose skill makes traditional textile printing possible. Explore the relationship between pattern, material and craftsmanship, and learn how designs are translated into intricately carved wooden blocks. Continue developing your own project in the workshop.

Day 05

A Craft of Your Own

After morning yoga, begin developing your own textile project. Experiment with different fabrics, patterns and printing techniques, guided by local artisans. Later, visit a local cow farm and experience another side of everyday life in rural Rajasthan, followed by tea and time together

Day 06

The World of Indigo

Explore the fascinating process of indigo dyeing and the transformation of fabric through natural colour. Experiment with indigo and discover the depth, variation and unpredictability that make natural dyes so distinctive. In the evening, gather for a concert and experience the creative spirit of the place beyond the workshop.

Day 07

Finishing What We Started

Bring your textile project to completion, refine your prints and reflect on what you have learned. Share your work with the group and celebrate the experience with a farewell dinner. A final day to appreciate the people, skills and stories that have shaped the week.

Day 08

A Different Side of Jaipur

Return to Jaipur and spend the day discovering the city's architecture, markets and creative life. Enjoy time to explore at your own pace, revisit favourite places or simply take in the colours and contrasts of Rajasthan's capital.

Day 09

Until the Next Door Opens

Enjoy your final morning in Rajasthan before departing for home. Leave with your own printed textiles, new skills and a deeper understanding of the people and traditions behind this remarkable craft.
